Relay For Life did the best publicity stunt Utah State has ever seen... in my opinion of course! I wasn't sure we were gonna pull it off, but it really came together and it still gives me chills to think about it!
I don't know if you've ever heard of a flash mob dance, but basically you get a big group of people to all learn the same dance, find a public place, have music start playing, and randomly throughout the song people join in and start doing the dance. Then when the song ends everyone walks away and pretend like nothing happened.
Our Colleges Against Cancer Club President put together a dance and taught as many people as were willing to do it. We kind of thought maybe 15 people would show up to do the dance, but we easily doubled that which was cool. The morning of Relay For Life during one of the busy passing periods, Aggie Radio set up speakers for us outside the TSC and the club performed the dance. I volunteered to record the dance since I'm 7 months pregnant! I'm actually bummed because it was so bright I couldn't see the screen on my camera and couldn't tell if it was recording or not so I missed the beginning of the dance. Luckily we had three other people also record it so at least there are some good copies out there!
Here's my video for all to enjoy. It was our first time putting a flash mob dance together so it's not the best, but I think we're all pretty proud with how it turned out and I'm willing to bet it's something the Colleges Against Cancer Club will do every year as a Relay For Life Publicity stunt!
...
For some reason the video won't load and I'm tired of trying so if you want to see it you'll have to check it out on my facebook page. Sorry to disappoint.

Arizona Baby Shower
My mom and sisters were nice enough to put together a Baby Shower for me at my parents house. I got so many cute things including some pretty amazing quilts that I will have to take pictures of and post. I have some really talented friends and family.

All the pictures pretty much look the same so I only included a few.

I have to document the food. Anyone who knows my mom knows that she won't let anyone go hungry! First is the "light lunch" of finger sandwiches, veggies, and salads.

This is the same food arrangement just a view from the other side of the counter. It may not look like much, but the meat/cheese tray and the rolls in bowls are still covered to keep fresh.

Next is the ice cream bar. The ice cream isn't out at this point but there were two 5 GALLON cartons of ice cream. TONS! Plus pretty much any ice cream topping you could want.

This is the other side of the counter for the ice cream bar.

And of course drinks!

Thank you Mom, Kiley, Sally, and Lacey for putting a shower together for me! And thank you everyone that attended and helped us feel that much more prepared for Shasta's arrival.

Let's Be Frank...
Pregnancy, not my favorite thing.
I'm tired of throwing up. Although it happens less and less, it's still frustrating and I'm ready to be past it.
Acid reflux is awful.
Food never sounds good because it'll A. either make me want to throw up or B. cause acid reflux.
I had an entire day to focus on homework and house cleaning today, but instead layed around doing nothing because I've wanted to puke the whole day. And not the kind of puke to get out of doing the things I don't want to do. I really needed to focus on homework because it's going to be a busy weekend and instead couldn't concentrate on anything.
I've had two really good cries since being pregnant and both times it was because I was mentally exhausted from trying to convince myself that feeling this crappy would all be worth it in the end as so many people have told me. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to be a mom, but I can only take so much!
I've discovered I'm ticklish from the inside which is HIGHLY annoying! It's only in one spot just to the right of my left hip, but it seems that's Shasta's most favorite place to play. It doesn't matter what I do, she always goes right back to that spot.
I can't hold onto a thought to save my life. I feel like such a space cadet and I'll tell ya, it hasn't made planning and running Team Captain meetings for Relay For Life very easy. Not to mention I'll get to the Doctor's office with tons of questions and when it comes time to ask them I can't remember a single one of them. Oh, and homework has been so much fun!
My skin has broken out so bad I feel like I'm in Jr High again. It's embarrassing really.
Heat rash is anything but pleasant. If anyone has a cure I'm all ears. I'm definitely grateful I'm not pregnant in the summer... ouchie!
Why any girl would want her goods to be bigger is beyond me! I don't really feel like they've grown much, but they hurt all the time and can now rest on my belly which is gross. Bet you were dying to know that! :)
Belly hair? Really? It might just be peach fuz that is now noticable, but seriously, what's the point? My dear sweet husband has informed me that my belly is now hairier than his! Gotta love him!
According to my Doctor I gained 7 pounds in two weeks. When my face went bright red he redeemed himself by telling me I'm skinny and it's all in my belly. Still, gaining weight scares me because it's something I've never dealt with before. I officially weigh the most I ever have in all my 24 years of living and I still have 2 more months to go before this baby makes her debut. The good news is I'm only up 7 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight so far and my Doctor expected me to gain 25 lbs. Technically with all the weight I lost and have now gained back I've put on 18 lbs from my lowest pregnancy weight. Sigh.
I feel winded after climbing the stairs.
I can no longer see my toes when I stand up.
I don't know the last time my whole house has been clean at the same time.
I haven't done a single thing to prepare for Shasta's arrival. The only baby things in her room are what was given to her at my baby shower and all those things still remain in gift bags. One of these days I'll get around to putting stuff away, but first I have to junk out her closet and buy a dresser so it'll be a while before I get around to it.
I have several projects I want to get done before she comes, but they're all still sitting in the bags I brought them home from the store in. When I think about working on them I think of all the things I should be doing instead, like cleaning my house, so the bags still sit there staring at me wondering if they'll ever be more than a pile of "'round tuits". Again, sigh.
I wake up every couple of hours during the night for no apparent reason. I don't have to pee. I'm not uncomfortable. Nick isn't snoring. I just randomly wake up and lay there for what feels like ages before falling back asleep. Half the time I think I should just get up and start my day, but that means facing all of my least favorite things that much sooner and that much longer.
I think my absolute least favorite thing about pregnancy is the thought of going through all of this again. Whenever I hear someone announce they're pregnant my first thought is, "Oh you poor thing". It's hard for me to think pregnancy could be easy for some people or that some girls don't get sick. That just doesn't seem possible. And when I hear people say that their second pregnancy is so much different from their first, usually worse, I think there is no possible way I can ever do this again if it's only going to be worse the second time.
Honestly, I wish I'd had a more positive outlook on things while being pregnant, but it's really hard to find the good in being sick non stop. I should be humbled that the Lord thinks I'm so capable of enduring what feels like the hardest trial I've ever faced, but instead I find myself wondering what I did to deserve this.
I've tried to put on a brave face with my go-to responses to questions like, "how are you feeling". Responses being, "good", "can't complain", "it's hit and miss", and so on. Most people don't really care anyway, they're just making conversation. But I do wonder if my "brave face" actually fools people or if everyone thinks I'm really a big whiner (based on facebook posts) who just needs to suck it up already. There's times I feel like I never stop complaining (such as right now with this post) and then there's times when I wonder if people think I'm making it all up because they never see me when I'm sick... like at church when I fake how well I'm actually feeling or at work when I wait for my manager to leave before sitting on the bathroom floor to hover over the toilet. Guess I'll never know.

Belly Pics and Belly Band
First things first, let's take care of the belly pictures since they're always awkward! :)
This was actually taken on the 13th so it's a week old. I guess that would make me 22 weeks and 4 days.
You'll have to excuse the bed head and pj's. I had Nick take this when he got home from work so it's after midnight and Wedge and I were napping before hand! 23 weeks and 5 days.
Now for my belly band/maternity band/bella band... whatever you want to call it! A friend gave me a link on how to make one so I decided to try it. They are incredibly easy and took me less than an hour to make and that includes playing with a puppy and responding to comments on facebook in between. The hardest part was the hand stitching at the end, but even that wasn't too bad.
Here's my final masterpiece in all its glory!
It works well with my pajama bottoms right? Lucky for me the shirt I was wearing matched my pj's so I didn't have to change clothes for the pictures! I like how it looks like I'm wearing two shirts.
And I like that it comes up high on my stomach. It'll be nice to wear after the baby comes so I'll feel less exposed while nursing since it will keep my back covered. Bonus!
It's too big for me for now. Since it's just a tube that's all the same size it's really loose around my ribs and therefore bunches up under my shirt and doesn't look normal. I'm sure eventually I'll grow into it, but I think the next one I make I'll cut a few inches smaller. The tutorial that I followed showed pictures and because I wasn't sure how far along the girl was or what her pre-pregnancy body type is, I didn't want to make any changes to it and have it not fit. But now I know for next time and I'm excited to make another one. The best part is these things run like $15-$20 in stores and I made mine for under $5. Had I of been willing to wait for knit fabric to be on sale it would have been even cheaper, but I paid full price for it. Oh, and really it would cost me even less at full price, but I bought exactly the amount of fabric the tutorial said and I ended up with quite a bit extra so lesson learned for next time.
If you would like to make your own, which I highly recommend, here's the link to her blog!

Okay... apparently I don't know how to make it a link. When I try using the "link" icon it doesn't show up on my blog, only in my edit screen. Good times. Guess if you want to check out her blog you'll just have to copy/paste the address. Sorry.

20 Weeks and 4 Days Pics
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I feel silly taking these pictures. But for the sake of my family being in Arizona and not getting to experience my growing belly in person I'll continue to post them. Nick isn't very good about telling me if I'm turned enough that you can see me from the side and I don't really know how to judge where to stand. Plus he was being a pain and snapped picture after picture and wouldn't count or tell me he's gonna take it so basically none of them look good and most of them I deleted. And I don't know what setting we have our camera on, but it picks when it wants to use the flash which is super annoying. There were some decent pictures, (better angle to see my belly) but the flash didn't go off so they're really dark and yellow. Oh well. This is the best it's gonna get tonight. Enjoy!

And the last one is of me saying, "are you done yet?" because like I said, he just kept snapping picture after picture.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice...
Nick and I finally found out what the sex of the baby is. I posted it on facebook so I'm sure everyone that reads my blog already knows, but for the sake of blogging I'll post it here too. We're having a little girl!!!
I'm sure we have some family members that are relieved and others that are disappointed. This will be the 6th girl in Nick's family with no little boys running around and it will be the 4th little girl in my family with 2 little boys that just arrived in October. Although it would have been fun for Nick to have the first boy in his family (since he's the only boy) we're still super excited for our little girl! And Nick's excited to make a little volleyball player out of her!
As for my appointment they said everything looks really good. The ultra sound tech told us everything we were looking at and with everything said baby's doing great and is healthy. He said I'm measuring to be due on June 17th, but it's only two days off from what they thought so they're not going to change my due date. Still due on the 15th!
Baby girl was tucked up in a little ball during the entire ultra sound. She was VERY stubborn and wasn't going to move for anybody. She was sitting breech the whole time too which was kind of funny to me because I sit with my knees tucked up under my chin everyday at work because it helps with not wanting to puke so much. Guess we have something in common! Anyway, it wasn't until he got all of the measurements and was done with everything, but finding the gender that he finally got her to move enough to see there were definitely no boy parts. She had us a little worried that we weren't gonna get to find out if she was a he or she! It's also a little commical because now she won't stop moving. Maybe this means she won't be a morning person...!
I'm down two more pounds since my last appointment. That puts me at a total of 12 pounds lost since getting pregnant. My doctor seemed a little more concerned about it this time and gave me yet another prescription to see if it will help with the nausea. He said the baby's growing and doing good so it's not a problem yet, but we don't want it to be a problem later. I'm not worried about it personally. I felt like I was gaining weight and was actually worried about what the scale was going to say at this appointment (we don't have a scale at home), but then I got sick with a cold and the flu so I think that's what did it for me this time.
As for baby girl's name. We've had quite the range of reactions about it with telling our friends and family so far today. I guess that's probably why people keep the name a secret because once it's done it's done and it doesn't matter who does and doesn't like it. Nick and I decided at least 4 years ago what we would name our kids. We picked 3 girl names and 3 boy names and so far we still like all of the girl names, but couldn't come to an agreement on the first boy name. It's funny how you can tell when someone is trying to be nice and pretend they like the name, but they really hate it. Every phone call I made today seemed to have that reaction! But that's okay. To each their own. Nick and I like the name and that's all that really matters.
Have I played up the name enough yet?!? You should just decide now that you're not going to like it! :) We're going to name her...
Shasta Elizabeth!
Elizabeth is my middle name and also my grandma's name. When my grandma died it meant a lot more to me to have her name and I decided then that I would pass it on. Nick and I have since decided that all of our kids will get a name passed onto them whether it be first or middle. Shasta is just a name that Nick has wanted for a long time and although I didn't like it at first, I do now! He finally convinced me when he said we could have a little "Shasta" party for her first birthday or whenever and I pictured this really cute scrapbook page!!! Obviously there's the Shasta drinks, but in Arizona there's also Shasta Pools, as in swimming pools. How convenient that she'll be born in late spring, practically summer for us to be able to do a pool party with my family when we visit!
Nick is also kind of relieved to be having a girl first because apparently not this one, but the next Chronicles of Narnia movie, the main character is named Shasta so he didn't want people to think we copied the movie. If we were having a boy first then it'd probably hit right at the same time as the movie being released that we would be using Shasta for baby #2, if she was a girl of course. Now we won't have that problem!
Anyway, so there it is. Shasta Elizabeth Hendricks. We debated on Shiloh instead of Shasta, but I have a cousin named Shiloh and we're wanting to use a name for a boy that another cousin just used recently so it kind of seems like I'm just using all of my cousins names! We're excited for Shasta and maybe by announcing her name now it will grow on all those that don't like it! It took me a while to come around too so just give it time! :)

New Hair and Belly Pics
First things first... Wedge and I both got new haircuts! Mine's been LONG overdue. I usually keep my hair this length, but I got lazy and didn't cut it for a while and then I got sick and was afraid to make an appointment because I never knew how I was going to feel. I finally decided to just show up and hope there was room for me. Worked like a charm. Chelsea was able to squeeze me in before her next appointment showed up. Thanks Chelsea!
Be honest. Does my haircut look as silly as Wedge's does?!
It probably only looks silly to us because we're so used to his ears being big and fluffy. Even when he was a puppy his ears were more filled out than they are now so technically this is the first time we've seen his ears so little. We also only cut his ears and didn't shave the rest of him so he looks like a pinhead. His head looks WAY too small for his body! There is reason behind the madness though. Wedge has really fine hair and it tangles SO easily. We would brush his ears and within the hour he would already have new tangles forming. Part of it is probably due to not bathing him enough (I blame the pregnancy!) and his comb tends to make his ears staticky. Plus he's always rolling around on the floor, scratching his ears, and playing with his big stuffed animal which always makes his whole head stand straight up from static. We can always tell when he's been playing with his stuffed animal! (It's like 7 times his size).
Now for the moment you've all been waiting for. I finally got around to having Nick take some more belly pictures for me. This time face included! I must admit I feel really awkward posing for belly pictures. It's kind of silly!
19 weeks and 4 days.
Nick says the dress makes me look more pregnant than I actually am. I think so too, but I didn't want to change my clothes. When I wear jeans and a tshirt I pretty much look the same as the week 17 pictures. Especially because baby bear is really low so my pants hide it all.
Last but not least, Nick said I had to include this picture. He felt the need to keep snapping pictures of me after we were done with our little photo shoot so I made a face. Random side note: it's funny to me how much more yellow our house looks when the flash on the camera doesn't go off. Glad it's not really that color! Yikes!
Tomorrow's the big day. 9am we find out boy or girl! Woot woot! And I don't think the name is a secret, but I'll have to double check with Nick before I post it. We finally came to an agreement on both a boy and a girl name. I'm a little reluctant to share both of them though for fear they'll be taken when we get around to using both of them. Although maybe by posting them now I'll have proof that we dibsed (is that a word?!) them first! We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow. Wish us luck!

2010 Recap
*Found out two of my sisters were having babies due on the same day and my sister in law was having a baby due five days before them. First baby for all of them.
*Got a new niece in march.
*Turned 21 again!
*Went to Arizona for spring break.
*Stepped down from being the manager at my job so I could focus more on school.
*Had my second successful year of being on the Relay for Life committee at USU.
*Celebrated my 4th wedding anniversary.
*Nick had his 32nd birthday.
*My younger sister turned 21 in July which makes us the same age now! :)
*Wedge turned 1 and yes, we had a mini birthday party for him!
*Went to Las Vegas for a training retreat for Relay for Life.
*Went to Arizona for a double baby shower for my sisters.
*Found out we're expecting our first baby in June.
*Got a new nephew October 23rd, another one October 29th, and a new niece October 31st!
*Went to Arizona for Thanksgiving and shared the exciting news with my family that we're having a baby!
*Spent the rest of the year puking, feeling like crap, and not wanting to do anything.
That about sums things up! Lots of baby stories in 2010. I'm sure I'm forgetting many other important things, but I'm blaming it on not feeling good!

Baby Bear
I've been feeling baby bear move this last week. It's been subtle and hardly noticable, but I'm positive that's what it is. At first I wasn't sure, but the more I feel it the more I can tell. I want more than anything for Nick to feel it, but he never seems to be around when it happens.
I was actually dreading feeling the baby move for a while. Once I started puking at 6 weeks I was just so miserable and felt like my body had been invaded and I was never going to feel normal again. The last thing I wanted was to have something move around inside me to only confirm the invasion I couldn't control. I don't feel at all like I'm even close to being back to normal and at 17 weeks I still puke plenty, but feeling the little one move makes me smile! I'm starting to feel like there's actually something in there... not just a tumor (which is what Nick calls it)!
Once Nick gets home from work I'll have him take a picture. I'm not showing that much, but I kinda popped out over night it seems. At least there's something worth taking a picture of now.
I'm anxious to find out what we're having! Only 18 more days!!! I haven't wanted to do anything baby related (or anything in general really) because I've been sick and because there isn't much point when we don't know what the sex is. So far everyone but one person has guessed boy (and the one that said girl said she likes girls and wanted to be different). I have a customer that every time she sees me she says I'm so skinny, I'm having a boy for sure.
Also, I don't know if I should share this embarrassing piece of information, but I have long blackish hair growing right below my belly button. To anyone else I'm sure it's not noticable, but it sure is to me! I feel like an adolescent boy going through puberty! Anyway, I told my sister about it and she said her doctor told her that only happens when you have a boy because of the testosterone. I guess we'll see if that's true.
We don't have any boy names picked out and we have three girl names. Well, I should be more clear. Nick thinks we have a boy name picked out, but I say we don't! *Funny side note: Nick and I are texting while he's on his lunch break and he just said to me, "guess we'll know the baby's name in a couple of weeks."* He's determined we have a boy name picked out. I understand the reason he wants the name; they're two amazing people that mean a lot to him and he wants to honor them by using their names, but at the same time I feel like I should get to choose a name that I like, not a name that someone else liked years ago and named their child that back in like the 1920's!
I'm perfectly okay with all of our kids having a middle name that's been passed down to them. In fact, we've kind of decided that's what we'll do and all the girls names have middle names that belong to an ancestor. But, I feel like the first name, the name I'll call my child, should be a name that I like and picked out. Oh well. Hopefully Nick and I will be able to agree on something. Or better yet, hopefully we have a girl so we don't have to figure out a boy name!
Come to think of it... Nick named our puppy, the first girl name is what he wants and I agreed that I like it, and he's determined to get his way with the first boy's name. Pretty sure he's spoiled... and stubborn!
