Chores

Our 10th wedding anniversary is coming up and we've decided to take our girls to Disneyland. In order to help eliminate them begging for every toy they see, we thought it'd be a good idea to let them earn some money so they can buy something special while we're there and once their money is gone, that's all they can buy. I made a chore chart for each of them and after they earn 10 stickers they get a dollar. Some of the chores are everyday things that they do anyway, but others are more challenging. Shasta's list includes unloading the dishwasher, hand washing dishes so mom can load them into the dishwasher (our dishwasher never gets our dishes clean if we don't wash them first so it's pretty much just a sterilizer for us), cleaning up dog poop in the yard, and scrubbing toilets. Shelby's has more simplified things like cleaning off the kitchen table and wiping walls.

Both girls love their chore charts and ask everyday if they can do chores. Shasta unloaded the dishwasher the other morning before I had even gotten out of bed! And after I taught her how to clean the toilet, she did the other two bathrooms and then came downstairs and said to me, "Mom, I'm gonna clean the toilet every time someone uses it"! She loves the responsibility. Anything that gets her one step closer to being a mom and she's all over it!

Shelby loves getting stickers, but she isn't nearly as ambitious about it as Shasta has been. It usually takes a little bit of convincing to get Shelby to do a chore on her list. But both girls are extremely excited to go to Disneyland and they love that they're earning money to spend while they're there.
